The Tipán district is located in the Castilla province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on December 13, 1943. It has an area of ​​55.5 km². The 2017 census counted 474 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 696, in 2007 591. The district administration is located in the 1913  m high village of Tipán with 145 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tipán is just 40 km north of the provincial capital Aplao .

Geographical location

The Tipán district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the center of the province of Castilla. The area is drained south to the Río Colca .

The Tipán district borders in the south on the Aplao district , in the west on the Pampacolca district , in the north on the Viraco district , in the northeast on the Machaguay district and in the east on the Uñón district .
