The Tobelbach is a 1.4 to 1.8 kilometers long right tributary of the Reppisch in the municipality of Dietikon in the canton of Zurich . After the Stoffelbach, it is the most important outflow of the Honeret forest on the Dietiker side, in which it runs exclusively, and, along with this and the Aegertenbach, is one of the three brooks in this forest that flow into the Reppisch. It is not to be confused with the Tobelbach , which flows into the Reppisch near Birmensdorf .

In the summer months the brook carries almost no water and the entire brook bed seems to have dried up. Except for two short sections in which it has overturned, it runs close to nature. The Tobelbach is typified by the Federal Office for the Environment as a steep, small flowing water of the colline, carbonate central plateau.

The creek used to be nameless and the neighboring Stoffelbach was called Tobelbach . The last section of the stream, which runs in a ravine , probably gives its name .

course

The source of the Tobelbach is not clearly visible. The longest ditch above the source shown on the maps rises at about 515  m above sea level. M. on the north slope of the Honeret below the Honeretsrain in the Flur Obem Züriweg (over the Zürichweg) a little west of the municipality boundary to Urdorf . This initially flows slightly to the northwest and crosses under the Züri-Weg before it splits into two ditches. These turn west in the corridor Unter Züriweg and pass the ditches of the Stoffelbach. Shortly afterwards they reunite at Höhlistrasse , where at 495  m above sea level. M. the actual source is shown.

It now flows briefly to the southwest and flows around the southern slope of a slight hill in the area near the red cherry trees , before it turns again to the northwest and passes the hill in the west. He crosses under the Grad path twice. Shortly before the slope into the Reppischhalden, called Reppischhalden, it curves in an arc and now flows north to northeast. From here, in the Höhli corridor , Tobelbachstrasse follows it on the left and after a 550-meter-long stream reaches the Lorenzhütte .

The Tobelbach crosses under Kreuzplatzstrasse and is bordered on both sides by gentle hills. In the west these are the eastern slope of the Bäretsrain with a height of up to 479  m above sea level. M. , in the east there are two small elevations with a maximum height of 496  m above sea level. M. He crosses under the Höhlestrasse and a small path before he meets the Bernstrasse and the tracks of the Bremgarten-Dietikon-Bahn . He also crosses under this and now forms a small ravine. It is crossed by the Eichelwaldstrasse and a hiking trail. It finally empties at 409  m above sea level. M. between the mouth of the Aegertenbach upstream and that of the Stoffelbach downstream into the Reppisch.

geology

The mouth of the Tobelbach (left center) in the Reppisch

The brook has almost exclusively buried itself in Quaternary Würm - moraines sediment consisting of clay, silt and sand, only at the mouth one can find upper freshwater molasses formed in the tortonium .

flora

The Tobelbach mostly flows through woodruff - beech forest , mostly with lungwort and wood ziest . The arum- beech forest also occurs on its upper course , while its lower course after the Bernstrasse is characterized by the maple - ash forest with wild garlic . At the mouth there is also lungwort-beech forest with Immenblatt and privet .
