Death of a Kadettin is a German television film from UFA Fiction for Das Erste from 2017. It was directed by Raymond Ley , who also wrote the screenplay with his wife Hannah Ley . The film is based on the case of the medical officer candidate for the German Navy, Jenny Böken , who went overboard while on duty on the sailing training ship Gorch Fock and was then recovered dead from the North Sea. The main role is occupied by Maria Dragus .

The cadet Lilly Borchert starts work on board the sailing training ship Johann Kinau , although there are concerns about her physical suitability. Shortly before her birthday she is on duty on the lookout . She suddenly disappeared around midnight, and some comrades believe that they heard a scream. The search in the water remains unsuccessful. The journalist Hartmut Kerber, who is on board the ship, tries to find out what happened.
