The first part of the third season, Tokyo Ghoul: re , consists of 12 episodes ran from April 3, 2018 to June 19, 2018. action

The story of Tokyo Ghoul is about the student Ken Kaneki, who falls in love with a young woman named Liz. After meeting her, she bites his shoulder in a secluded alley and reveals that she is a " ghoul " (ghouls are creatures that look like humans, but can only feed on human flesh). As Liz is about to eat Ken, several large metal poles fall on her from the construction site of a high-rise building. Liz dies in the process. Ken is rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries. After he recovers, he is released from the hospital. On the day of his release, he finds out that he is no longer human. He looks in the mirror and a shiver runs down his spine because he now has one ghoul eye (ghouls actually have two ghoul eyes, but Ken only has one). He realizes that Liz's organs were transplanted to him in the hospital. Since he now owns Liz's organs, he is a so-called and very rarely occurring "half-ghoul". Since he cannot turn to anyone else, he is taken in by a group of ghouls who run the "Café Antik" (original: Anteiku ). They teach him how to cope with his new life as a half-ghoul and explain a lot about the society of ghouls, their factions and that he has to keep his identity a secret from other people.

Although he is reluctant to consume human flesh, in some situations he is forced to do so. At the end of the first season he is kidnapped and tortured by a group of extremist ghouls until he recognizes his ghoul nature, gets white hair and black nails and almost kills and then devours his tormentor. He is now more brutal to protect those who mean something to him.

The pre-story Tokyo Ghoul: JACK is about the youth of Kishou Arima and Taishi Fura, two characters from the main series who team up to investigate the death of a friend of Taishi. He died at the hand of a notorious ghoul named "Lantern" and Taishi follows Arima and ultimately joins the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul); the federal agency handling crimes related to ghouls.

The sequel Tokyo Ghoul: re is about Kaneki, who suffers from memory loss. With his new identity as Haise Sasaki he is the leader of a special team of the CCG called "Quinks", all of which were operated on by the CCG and are now half ghouls, so-called Quinks. Most have claws, but they do not need to eat human flesh and can lead a human life.

Characters

Ken Kaneki

Ken Kaneki is a shy youth who cannot get by as a half-ghoul. Still, he's a powerful ghoul who can heal himself quickly and defeat investigators even faster. After being tortured by Jason, he becomes more brutal and stronger so as not to let anyone die. As a ghoul, he has two pseudonyms from the CCG: "Eye patch", because of his mask, and "Millipede", because of his claw, which looks like a millipede. He loves books and would like to meet his favorite author Sen Takatsuki. In normal life he wears an eye patch because he cannot control his ghoul eye. He has black hair, but from the trauma of the torture of Jason gets white hair and black toenails and fingernails, and he becomes more muscular. Later Kaneki leaves the "Antik" to do his own research. With the change of hair color, its character also changes.

He is a little different from Haise Sasaki . He is now a ghoul investigator, but he believes that ghouls should not be killed for no reason. He is no longer shy, but more open. His standard clothing consists of a black shirt with a white tie and a long coat. In contrast to Ken, he detests his ghoul side and only fights with his claw in absolute emergencies. Usually he uses his quink. He is a very caring mentor, but his protégés keep running away from him because he is not very assertive.

When he becomes Ken Kaneki again, he kills ghoul investigators again to protect his friends and especially Toka, who is now his wife and is expecting a child.

Tōka Kirishima

Tōka is a very impulsive ghoul. She is quick-tempered and unfriendly and abuses Ken a lot. Nevertheless, she builds a bond with him and is horrified at his transformation. She has bangs that cover her right eye. She has a younger brother named Ayato, who she hates, her parents were exposed as ghouls and killed by the people. The CCG calls her the "rabbit" because of her mask after she kills investigator Mado as an act of revenge. She lives with Hinami in her apartment and tries to take care of her as best she can.

Hideyoshi Nagachika

Hideyoshi, called Hide, is a human being and Kaneki's best friend. Hide is a funny and very noticeable person, quite the opposite of Kaneki Ken. Hide has orange blonde hair that is short at the beginning of the story and relatively long at the end. Kaneki broke up the friendship after his "transformation" through distance, as he was afraid of drawing Hide into the ghoul world. He didn't tell Hideyoshi anything about this transformation. Hide, however, knew from the start that his best friend Kaneki had turned into a half-ghoul. In the course of the story, Hide becomes the CCG's informant and assistant to Kotaro Amon and Akira Mado. There he met Seido Takizawa with whom he became friends. At the end of Tokyo Ghoul, Hide is reported missing.

Yoshimura (Kuzen)

Yoshimura is a ghoul and the owner of the cafe called "Antik". The CCG calls it "The Owl". He's the one who introduces Kaneki to the world of ghouls. They develop a good relationship quickly, however, at the end of the second season of the anime, Yoshimura is almost killed by the CCG. He is devoured by another ghoul and thus saved.

Jason

Jason is a ghoul who was previously tortured by cutting off his toes and fingers by a mad ghoul investigator. He escaped and now uses the methods he was tortured with on others. He is known for his characteristic finger-cracking, which Ken inherited from him after he ate him. It is also called "gecko". After he was defeated by Ken, a quink was made from him, which is now owned by Juzo.

Hinami Fueguchi

Hinami is a young innocent girl. Her parents were killed by CCG investigators. Since then she has lived with Tōka. Tōka is like a sister to Hinami and Ken like a brother to her. It has a scale and feather claw.

Uta

Uta is the operator of the "HySy ArtMask Studio", in which he made the masks of almost all of the main characters. Uta is an old friend of Renji Yomo and Itori. Ken was a bit scared of him at first. When Ken was kidnapped and tortured by Jason, Uta also came to rescue him. Uta's mask represents a voodoo face and his ghoul name is "No Face". Its claw is unknown.

Jūzō Suzuya

Is a young man who was abused as a child by a ghoul called "Big Madam". Again and again he had to kill people in front of an audience in the "restaurant of the ghouls" as a "butcher". Big Madam kept him as a houseman and sent him to his cell after every fight and gave him a certain score. In order to deaden him to pain, she mutilated his genitals so that he could not be assigned to a gender later, because she wanted Juzo to be a girl. Through this abuse, he becomes a sociopath who does not understand the feelings of others. Despite everything, his skills as a "butcher" remained, so that he was allowed to work as an investigator with Shinohara, a CCG veteran.

Kureo Mado

Kureo is a middle-aged man who works as an investigator for the CCG. He is the father of Akira Mado and a partner and mentor of the CCG investigator Kōtarō Amon. About ten years before the main storyline began, his wife Kasuka was killed by the "one-eyed owl". Because of this event, his hatred of the ghouls was increased and he became increasingly sadistic towards them. His main goal was to find the "one-eyed owl" and avenge his wife. During the first season he is killed by Hinami Fueguchi and Tōka Kirishima.
