Tom Wu (* 15. May 1972 in Hong Kong ) is a British -hongkong- Chinese actor and martial artist .

life and career

Tom Wu is from Hong Kong and grew up in London's Chinatown . He started martial arts at the age of ten. He trained, among other things, hung gar , karate and wing chun before he also started acrobatics . Wu is one of the co-founders of the Yellow Earth Theater in London, which has existed since 1995, along with other British people of Asian descent .

While Wu was preparing for the European Wushu Championships, he was discovered for the production of the play M Butterfly at the Shaftsbury Theater , in which Anthony Hopkins was involved. His experience in production made him dream of working as an actor, which is why he enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1990 . He took on his first role in front of the camera in 1988 with a guest appearance in the series Rockliffe's Babies . In 1999 he took on a supporting role in the movie The Fast Money - The Nick Leeson Story with Ewan McGregor in the lead role. In 2003 he stood in front of the camera with Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan for the film Shanghai Knights and was subsequently also seen in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life . In 2003 he appeared alongside Steven Seagal in Belly of the Beast .

In 2005 he starred in the role of a prison guard in Batman Begins . In the same year he also starred as Lord John in Guy Ritchie's action film Revolver . In 2008 he took on a major supporting role as Fong in Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior . In 2010 he was part of the cast of Spirit Warriors as Hwang , which was discontinued after just one season. This was followed by supporting roles in the films RA.One - Superhero with Heart , James Bond 007: Skyfall , RED 2 and Kick-Ass 2 . In 2014 he was seen as Quon Shan in the second season of the series Da Vinci's Demons . That same year he was cast as Bayan / Hundred Eyes in one of the leading roles for the Netflix series Marco Polo . He played this until the series was discontinued in 2016.

In 2017 he starred in the film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and subsequently appeared in the series Strangers and Strike Back . In 2019 he starred as Tsoi in the action film Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw .

In addition to his appearances in films and series, Wu continues to regularly appear on the theater stage. His work includes productions of the plays A Midsummer Night's Dream , the title role in Peter Pan , Paintbrush and Ramayana . For this he was on stage at the Young Vic and the Royal National Theater, among others .
