Tommy Kaira

Tommy Kaira ( Japanese ト ミ ー カ イ ラ , Tomī Kaira ) was a Japanese rally team and automobile tuner based in Toyota .

history

The name Tommy Kaira first appeared in 1987. The small company founded by Yoshikazu Tomita ( 冨 田 義 一 ) and Kikuo Kaira ( 解 良 喜 久 雄 ) initially specialized from 1987 to 1996 in upgrading models from other companies both visually and in the engine sector.

In 1996 Tommy Kaira presented her first automobile: a small, self-designed sports convertible called Tommy Kaira ZZ . The style of the little car is very reminiscent of a mixture of older Porsche models and the Lotus Elise . The vehicle, which weighed only 690 kg, was powered by a four-cylinder engine with 195 hp from a 2.0 l displacement.

The ZZ was replaced by the ZZ II . In this case, the performance was increased to 550 hp with a weight of only 1000 kg. A six-cylinder Rb26dett from Nissan with biturbo technology ensured this performance . For the acceleration from 0-100 km / h, the car needs about 3.3 seconds with a torque of 545 Newton meters .

Both Tommy Kaira models are in-house developments. Production of these vehicles began on June 3, 1996 at Tomita Auto UK in Hingham , Norfolk , Great Britain. This company went into liquidation in spring 1999 .

1999 is also given as the end of the Tommy Kaira brand . Autobacs Sports Car Laboratory is the successor.
