The Aichi Kikai Kogyo KK ( Jap. 愛知機械工業株式会社 , Aichi Kikai Kōgyō Kabushiki Kaisha , Eng. Aichi Machine Industry Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese automobile manufacturers and automotive suppliers based in the Japanese Nagoya , Aichi Prefecture .

history

The company has its origins in the watchmaker Aichi Tokei Seizō KK, founded in July 1898 ( 愛 知 時 計 製造 Uhren , literally: "Aichi watch production", English Aichi Tokei Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ), 1912 renamed Aichi Tokei Denki KK ( 愛 知 時 計電機 株式会社 , literally: "Clocks and electrical machines Aichi"). The aircraft construction was added later in February 1943 when Aichi Kōkūki KK was spun off. In 1947 the company switched to automotive engineering and produced a. a. the three-wheeled vehicle Giant ( ヂ ャ イ ア ン ト 号 , Jaianto-gō ). In May 1949 it became the Shin Aichi Kigyō KK ( 新 愛 知 起 業 geht ) which changed its name to its current name in December 1952. In November 1959 the first model of the four- wheeler Cony ( コ ニ ー , Konī ) followed.

A few years later, Nissan began buying up the company's shares and eventually gained a majority. With that, the Cony brand ceased to exist. Cony brand cars existed from 1961 to 1966. The company's headquarters are in Nagoya . In addition to automobile production, the manufacturer also deals with gear and engine construction . In addition to Nissan, the Ford Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motors are also supplied.

In North America, the company also owns AK North America Corporation in Farmington Hills , Michigan . This branch, with fewer than five people, is supposed to guarantee the supply of parts in North America and is therefore of particular interest to classic car drivers, hobbyists and workshop chains.
