Otomo was a Japanese car brand.

Brand history

The engineer Junya Toyokawa, who studied mechanical engineering in the USA , was already producing twelve automobiles in 1921 for the Hakuyosha Ironworks company in Tokyo , which were marketed as ales . Series production began in 1924 under the brand name Otomo . Production ended in 1927. A total of around 270 vehicles or around 300 vehicles were built.

The first Japanese vehicle for export is an Otomo that was sold to Shanghai .

The first Otomo had an air-cooled four-cylinder engine with 944 cc displacement and 18 hp power. The transmission had three gears. There was a choice of two-seaters, touring cars , limousines and panel vans .

From 1926 a water-cooled engine with OHV valve control and 24 hp was available.

Another source names the Model S on the one hand . Engines with 945 cm³ displacement and 9 to 12 HP output, 980 cm³, 1331 cm³ and 1487 cm³ displacement have been passed on. The front engine drove the rear wheels. The vehicles were 303 cm long. Production ran from 1924 to 1927. At first there was only a two-door Phaeton , a roadster and a panel van. A two-door sedan was added in 1925. At least in the Phaeton, the steering wheel and front seat were arranged centrally, and behind them a bench seat for two people. Between 1926 and 1927 it also gave the Model M . For this, 1770 cm³ displacement and 12 to 20 HP as well as 1610 cm³ displacement and 24 HP are handed down. There was a choice of a two-door sedan, a four-door Phaeton and a panel van. The vehicles were 360 ​​cm long.
