Meiwa Jidōsha Kōgyō KK ( Japanese 明 和 自動 車 工業 株式会社 ) was a manufacturer of motor vehicles from Japan .

Company history

Since the occupation authorities forbade aircraft construction after the Second World War, the aircraft manufacturer Kawanishi Kōkūki (in English sources Kawanishi Aircraft Company) turned to vehicle construction in 1946 , the first model of which was the Akitsu three-wheeler van . In 1949 this division was spun off as an independent company Meiwa Jidōsha Kōgyō KK. An English source calls Shin Meiwa Kogyo instead. Nishinomiya is indicated as the location of the plant .

In 1956 the name was changed to Asahi Kōgyō KK ( 旭 工業 株式会社 ) as a subsidiary of Daihatsu , into which it was incorporated in 1970.

vehicles

Tricycles with a front single wheel were on offer. A front-mounted single - cylinder four-stroke engine with 744 cm³ displacement and 16 HP power propelled the vehicles. There was a choice of open and closed structures with space for up to seven people, some of which were used as taxis .
