KK Tōkyō Jidōsha Seisakusho ( Japanese 株式会社 東京 自動 車 製作 所 , English Tokyo Motor Vehicle Works ) was a manufacturer of motor vehicles from Japan .

Company history

Shintarō Yoshida ( 吉田 信太郎 ) had experience in automotive engineering in the USA . In 1902 he founded the company in Tokyo together with Komanosuke Uchiyama ( 内 山 ​​駒 之 助 ) . In the same year, the first car that remained a prototype was manufactured. In 1905 buses were built . The brand name for both models was Yoshida .

Series production began in 1907. The brand name was now Takuri ( タ ク リ ).

Production ended in 1909 or 1910. A total of 17 cars were built.

In 1911 it came to collaboration with Kunisue Jidōsha Seisakusho under the brand name Tokyo.

According to a source, the company was the first from Japan to make gasoline-powered automobiles for sale.

Type 1 from 1902 had an engine with 12 hp .

This was followed by Type 2 as an omnibus. It had twelve seats and was sold to a taxi company in Hiroshima . Its engine developed 18 hp.

The following models had a four-cylinder engine or a two-cylinder engine , each with 12 hp , depending on the source . Another source names 1837 cc displacement and 8 to 12 hp. They had a front engine and rear wheel drive. Type 3 was bodied as a Landaulet and Phaeton and was 340 cm long. The body offered space for four people. There was a single headlight on the front of the vehicle . Type 4 , on the other hand, was available as a truck and panel van .
