action

Part 1

Jan Berger is a young meteorologist who spent four years studying tornadoes in Oklahoma and who is now returning to Berlin . After landing at Tegel Airport , he noticed the unnatural heat in the city. After returning home, family reality catches up with him. The relationship with his father Dr. Jürgen Berger, an experienced meteorologist who heads the Berlin-Brandenburg weather service, is disturbed. Jan's former love, the young doctor Eva Keil, is now with Bruno Meindorf, who works for Jan's father. Jan lives with his blind sister Sophie, who is in a relationship with Karl Zimmer from the news channel N24 . Jan takes a position at Globcare Insurance at Potsdamer Platz , which is partly related to his tornado research. 280 kilometers west of Berlin there is a first tornado with hailstorms, which, however, has not been documented by any specialist. Jan visits the place after the storm and for the first time predicts a risk of tornadoes for the German capital, which no other expert confirms. Only Andreas Schütte, the head of the Berlin fire brigade control center , who has conflicts with his pubescent daughter at home, is interested in Jan's theses. However, Schütte's hands are tied politically and financially - he has to admit that there is no early warning system for Berlin. Bruno regularly sends Jan data from the weather service without the knowledge of his father and the first hailstorms are now appearing in Berlin. Schütte then arranged a meeting with Dr. Wittenberg, a speaker from the Berlin Senate , attended by father and son Berger. Wittenberg, however, sharply rejects Jan's unproven theses and rejects all disaster control measures. Bruno borrows Jan without the consent of Dr. Berger found a research vehicle with which he, accompanied by Eva, drove towards the approaching storm front. Both of them observe the creation of a supercell outside of Berlin . When the tornado swept over them, the research vehicle was destroyed.

Part 2

Jan and Eva survived the tornado in a concrete tube, but due to the destroyed equipment they cannot bring any evidence with them. After returning, Jan gets into serious trouble with his father because of the destroyed research vehicle and with Bruno because of Jan's approach to Eva. Sophie's friend Karl Zimmer gets Jan a TV appearance on N24, but Jan's theses are hardly heard in this way either. Bruno and Jan make up again, Karl Zimmer receives a visit from his eight-year-old daughter Lisa. Because of the approaching storm, Karl has to go back to the TV station and Lisa visits the Berlin TV tower with Sophie . Schütte triggers the first city-wide false alarm via the fire brigade control center, which puts him in political distress. But Jan's father Dr. Berger increasingly realizes the seriousness of the situation and no longer lets Dr. Put Wittenberg under pressure. He calls in Jan for the first time as a tornado specialist. Meanwhile, Jan decided to leave Berlin again. Finally, the tornado hits Berlin and leaves a trail of devastation. Schütte has to get his daughter back from a camping trip , Jan and Karl free Sophie and Lisa from the badly damaged television tower. Dr. After the catastrophe, Wittenberg announced the Senate decision to set up an early warning system on television . Jan takes a new position at the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva - a position his father had already dreamed of.

criticism

“The successful tornado pictures (especially in the second part) make up for a lot of bumps and unnecessary lengths of the story. In addition to Koeberlin, Mina Tander can be seen here in the role of Eva Keil, who once again shows that she not only looks good, but also acts convincingly. "

“Dramaturgically weak (television) disaster film that generates its effects using the latest computer technology in order to create a scenario that is as realistic as possible, but so that it can never compensate for its deficits. The characters are flat, the music rumbles like in an old Godzilla film, so that the mood of a catastrophe is never conveyed. "
