Tornow is a district of the city of Fürstenberg / Havel in the north of the state of Brandenburg ( Oberhavel district ). The Große Wentowsee partly belongs to the area of ​​the district . Tornow belonged to Mecklenburg until 1950 .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1318. Originally Tornow was laid out as an anger village. In the meantime it has become a street village . On July 1, 1950, the community of Tornow was reclassified together with the other places in Fürstenberger Werder from the Mecklenburg district of Neustrelitz to the Brandenburg district of Templin . From 1952 it belonged to the circle Gransee the district Potsdam .

Tornow was incorporated into Fürstenberg / Havel on October 26, 2003.

Tornow Castle

After the medieval stone church from the 13th century burned down several times, it was reconstructed in the neo-Gothic style in 1837/1838 . The plan for the church tower comes from the builder Schinkel . The churchyard is now a meadow used as pasture , the church was sold to private customers in 2013.

Tornow was a manor village until 1945; for centuries it was owned by the von Buch family . The first verifiable manor house burned down in 1726, it was demolished after 1883. The new manor house, which has been preserved to this day, had previously been built. The plans for the stately neo-Gothic building go back to the Strelitz court master builder Georg Daniel .

The mansion has served as a non-governmental educational facility with overnight accommodation since 1993. The Tornow Templar Commandery has its headquarters in the neighborhood (barn building) . On the road to Blumenow is the street oak with a chest height of 7.80 m (2016).
