The Totos district is located in the Cangallo province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on February 12, 1825. It has an area of ​​115 km². The 2017 census counted 3177 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4162, in 2007 4004. The seat of the district administration is the 3286  m high village of Totos with 299 inhabitants (as of 2017). Totos is 41 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Cangallo .

Geographical location

The Totos district is located in the Andean highlands in the western south of the Cangallo province. The Río Pampas flows east along the southern district boundary and drains the area.

The district of Totos borders in the west on the district Paras , in the north and in the east on the district Chuschi and in the south on the district Vilcanchos ( province Víctor Fajardo ).
