Tremezzo was until February 3, 2014 an Italian municipality with 1238 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013) on Lake Como in the province of Como in Lombardy . Mezzegra is now part of the new Tremezzina municipality , which was formed on February 4th 2014 through the merger of the municipalities of Lenno , Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Ossuccio .
geography
The neighboring communities were: Bellagio , Grandola ed Uniti , Griante , Lenno , Lezzeno , Menaggio , and Mezzegra .
The city is located 60 kilometers north of Milan and 20 kilometers northeast of Como . Tremezzo is the headquarters of the Frankfurt (including Clemens Brentano and Bettina von Arnim ), Binger (including Lorenz Brentano ) and Friedberger (including Heinrich von Brentano ) line of the Brentano family .
Community merger
From 1928 to 1947 she belonged to the Tremezzina community together with Lenno and Mezzegra . 4242 inhabitants lived in the community (as of 1936). In 1947 it was dissolved and the three founding communities regained their independence.
Mezzegra is now part of the new Tremezzina municipality , which was formed on February 4th 2014 through the merger of the municipalities of Lenno , Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Ossuccio . A consultative referendum took place in the four sub-municipalities on December 1, 2013, in which 63% of voters gave a positive opinion on the draft. In November 2013 the population was 5,124.

history
On the night of April 29-30, 1945, an English plane bombed the west coast of Lake Como off Tremezzina and destroyed the Hotel Bazzoni in Tremezzo, killing sixteen civilians.
Attractions
- The most famous building is the Villa Carlotta , built from 1690 with its Italian park , last used in the second half of the 19th century as the summer residence of the House of Sachsen-Meiningen . Since the expropriation as enemy property by the Italian state after the First World War , a museum has been housed here, which is known for its sculpture collection .

Personalities
- Francesco Martinelli (* 1651 in Tremezzo; † October 28, 1708 in Vienna ), architect, in 1683 he delivered his masterpiece as a master builder in Vienna. He participated in the construction of St. Peter's Church , the Servite Church and the Esterházy Palace on Wallnerstrasse in Vienna.
- Giovanni Battista Martinelli (* around 1680 in Tremezzo; † 1757 in Dunaalmás ?), Son of Francesco, architect, he built the Catholic Church in Dunaalmás in Northern Hungary.
- Domenico Brentano (* 1686 in Tremezzo; † 1755 in Nürnberger Hof ), wholesale merchant, had moved the headquarters of his Milan trading house to Frankfurt am Main in the Nürnberger Hof in 1698 .
- Peter Anton Brentano called Peter Anton, (born September 19, 1735 in Tremezzo, † March 9, 1797 in Frankfurt am Main), grandson of Domenico, merchant and diplomat.
