Tuija Mirjam Inkeri Vuoksiala-Oksanen (born August 25, 1961 ) is a former Finnish biathlete .

With an interruption of two years, the Finn belonged to the extended world elite for twelve years and took part in nine Olympic Winter Games and Biathlon World Championships . She won three bronze medals at world championships.

Tuija Vuoksiala is a physiotherapist and lives in Vehkalahti . Vehkalahden Veikot's biathlete started her sport in 1983. A year later , she took part in the first ever women's biathlon world championship in Chamonix , finishing 14th in the individual and 27th in the sprint. At the 1986 Biathlon World Championships in Falun , Vuoksiala was eighth in the individual and eleventh in the sprint. In 1987 she won her only individual medal with bronze in Falun behind Sanna Grønlid and Kaija Parve . In addition, she was again eleventh in the sprint. 1989 were held in Feistritz for the first time races in the team competition in which she was fifth with Sari Kokko , Pirjo Mattila and Seija Hyytiäinen , in the relay race with Kokko and Mattila sixth. In the individual, a 25th place was added.

In 1990 Vuoksiala started at the very chaotic World Championships due to weather conditions. At the individual in Minsk she was 28th, at Holmenkollen in Oslo 20th in the sprint and with Mattila, Päivi Kallio and Seija Hyytiäinen seventh in the team race. The relay race was held in Kontiolahti . Here Vuoksiala won the bronze medal with Hyytiäinen and Mattila behind the Soviet Union and Norway. The results in 1991 were less good with 31st place in the individual and 32nd in the sprint in Lahti . The Finn missed the first Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992. She came back to the Biathlon World Championships in 1993 in Borovets . In the individual she finished 19th in the sprint, 47th place, with the team she reached tenth place. In 1994 Vuoksiala was finally able to compete in the Olympic Games. In Lillehammer , the Finn reached 55th place in the individual, was 36th of the sprint and with Katja Holanti , Tuija Sikiö and Mari Lampinen as the last runner of the relay tenth. The last major event was the 1995 biathlon world championships in Antholz , where the Finnish woman finished 30th in the sprint and 44th in the individual.

In the Biathlon World Cup , Vuoksiala regularly achieved results in the points, always among the top ten. In 1995 she ended her international career, but started several years at the national level. So she was still at the Finnish championships in 1998 with Katja Holanti and Hanna Kajosmaa champion in the relay race and the team competition.
