The Tullnerfeld is 48 km long and up to 14 km wide. The Quaternary Basin reaches heights of 200  m (near Krems) to 170  m near Korneuburg. The district town of Tulln is located roughly in the center of the basin. The Tullnerfeld, located south of the Danube, is included in the (extended) Mostviertel ; the new Lower Austrian spatial planning makes it part of the central Lower Lower Austria region .

It is divided by the Kleiner Wagram , an approx. 2 to 3 meter high step in the terrain, which is well defined in the western part. In the eastern part of Tullnerfeld this step is washed out and barely visible.

The Tullnerfeld, which adjoins the Wachau , is also traversed by the Danube, into which numerous tributaries flow: the Krems , the Traisen , the Kamp , the Perschling , the Große Tulln , the Kleine Tulln and the Schmida .

Tullnerfeld station has been an important regional station for all of these railways since 2012.

After all, the Danube is also an important supraregional transport route.

economy

Important cities with industry are Stockerau , Korneuburg , Tulln and Krems .

With the Danube run-of- river power plants Altenwörth and Greifenstein , the caloric power plants in Dürnrohr , Theiss and Korneuburg and the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant , which never went into operation , the Tullnerfeld plays an important role in electricity production.

Agriculture and floriculture have a major impact on the economy. The city has consolidated its reputation through the numerous nurseries around the district capital Tulln , through numerous trade fairs and exhibitions as well as competence centers, which have since received international attention. The permanent garden show Garten Tulln , with which the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna also works, is a destination for numerous visitors. But the Tulln garden show at the exhibition center also plays a major economic factor. This is also reflected in some names, such as the nickname flower city for Tulln or Rosenbrücke for the important Danube bridge in this region. But numerous products are also grown in agriculture. The Tullnerfeld cabbage is traditional , a variety of white cabbage that is also entered in the register of traditional foods and which gives the growing region its name as part of the Genussregion Österreich project . It is similar in cattle breeding, where the Tullnerfeld pig is registered.
