The Túpac Amaru district is located in the Canas Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on September 1, 1941. It bears the name of José Gabriel Condorcanqui (known as Túpac Amaru II ), who led an uprising against the Spaniards at the end of the 18th century. It has an area of 117.8 km². The 2017 census counted 2523 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was in 3399, in 2007 at the 2965th seat of the district administration is at an altitude of 3791 m nearby places Tungasuca with 452 inhabitants (2017). Tungasuca is located 8 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Yanaoca and 90 km south-southeast of the regional capital Cusco .
Geographical location
The Túpac Amaru district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the Canas province. The upper reaches of the Río Apurímac runs along the southwestern district boundary. In the northeast is the lake Laguna Pampamarca.
The Túpac Amaru district borders in the northwest on the Pomacanchi district ( Acomayo province ), in the northeast on the Mosoc Llacta district (also in the Acomayo province), in the east on the Pampamarca district , in the south on the Yanaoca district and in the west on the district Livitaca ( Chumbivilcas Province ).
