Tuukka Mäntylä (born May 25, 1981 in Tampere ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Malmö Redhawks in the Svenska Hockeyligan .
Career
Tuukka Mäntylä began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , for whose professional team he was active from 1999 to 2003 in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league. After he had already become runner-up with Tappara in the 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons , he won the Finnish championship title with his team on the third attempt in the 2002/03 season . From 2003 to 2005, the defender played for Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien , before returning to Tappara Tampere for another two years. From 2007 to 2009 he was again on the ice in the Swedish Elitserien, but this time for the Frölunda HC .
For the 2009/10 season Mäntylä rejoined his home club Tappara Tampere, where he stayed for two seasons before he was obliged in October 2011 by Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk from the Continental Hockey League . At the end of the season he returned to Tappara, where he was appointed team captain and was appointed to the Liiga All-Star team at the end of the season. In May 2013 he was signed by Metallurg Novokuznetsk from the Continental Hockey League. For Metallurg he scored 16 points scorer in 53 KHL games before returning to his home club in July 2014.
From November 2014 he was under contract with Amur Khabarovsk and played for this club from the far east of Russia in 25 KHL games. He did not receive a new contract after the end of the season, he moved to KHL Medveščak Zagreb in June 2015 . After returning to Tampere in January 2016, he won the Finnish championship with the club at the end of the season. After this success, the "Wandervogel" moved to East Asia, where he was on the ice for the newly founded Kunlun Red Star club from Beijing in the Continental Hockey League .
In the summer of 2017, he initially moved to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk within the KHL , but a few weeks later asked for personal reasons to terminate the contract and instead signed a contract with the Malmö Redhawks from Svenska Hockeyligan .
International
For Finland, Mäntylä took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championships in 1998 , the U18 Junior World Championships in 1999 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2000 and 2001 . At the U18 European Championship in 1998 and the U20 World Cup in 2001 he and his team won the silver medal, and at the U18 World Cup in 1999 even the gold medal. At the U20 World Cup in 2001, he was also elected to the all-star team of the tournament and had the best plus / minus balance of all players.
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2004 , 2006 , 2007 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 World Championships , as well as the Euro Hockey Tour from 2003 to 2009 and 2013 to 2016 . At the 2006 World Cup, he won the bronze medal with Finland and the silver medal at the 2007 and 2014 World Championships.
