Reviews

James Berardinelli described the comedy on ReelViews as "brainless", watching the film as a "grueling experience" that even Antonio Banderas' fans could not satisfy. He only praised Danny Aiello's screen presence.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of March 15, 1996 that comedy would be of what is probably the most difficult genre of film . The film would have some elements of good comedy that wouldn't make a fun movie.

The lexicon of international films describes the film as "an entertaining mix-up comedy in the style of old screwball comedies , which after the fast-paced introduction doesn't have much to offer and relies entirely on slapstick and slapstick ."

Awards

Antonio Banderas received a nomination for Best Actor for the Spanish Goya Film Award in 1997 . Melanie Griffith and Daryl Hannah were nominated for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress for the Golden Raspberry in 1997.
