The ninth U-17 Asian football championship was held in Vietnam in 2000 . The tournament started on September 3rd and ended on September 17th . Oman was victorious with a 1-0 win over Iran . The two finalists qualified with Third Japan for the U-17 World Cup in 2001 .

Result
The finalists Oman and Iran as well as the third Japan qualified for the U-17 World Cup in 2001 .
After the tournament, 16 players were banned for two years each because they had already exceeded the age limit. The affected national teams of Iran , Oman , Thailand , Nepal and Bangladesh were suspended for the 2002 Asian Cup . The 2000 results remained unchanged.
