The 15th Asian U-16 Cup was held in Iran in 2012 . The tournament started on September 22nd and ended on October 6th . Uzbekistan was victorious by beating Japan on penalties . The two finalists qualified with the two losing semi-finalists Iraq and Iran for the U-17 World Cup in 2013 .

The registered nations identified the 16 participants in eight groups. The host was chosen from this group.
