The third U-16 soccer Asian championship was held in Thailand in 1988 . The tournament started on November 1st and ended on November 14th . The winner was Saudi Arabia by a 2: 0 win over Bahrain . The two finalists and third China qualified for the 1989 U-17 World Cup .

qualification

The 21 registered teams played two final round participants in five groups. The host of the final round was selected from among the qualified nations.

Group 1

Group 1 played in Kuwait City , Kuwait in August 1988 . Here, put Saudi Arabia and Iraq against South Yemen , North Yemen , Oman and the hosts through.

Group 2

In Group 2, Bahrain and Qatar qualified .

Group 3

Group 3 played from May 19-27, 1988 in Bangkok , Thailand .
