The Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Unione Sportiva Grosseto 1912 (as Football Club Grosseto and 2015-2017 FC Grosseto ), short US Grosseto , is an Italian football club from the Tuscan Grosseto .

The club colors are red and white, the club plays its home games in the Stadio Carlo Zecchini, which can seat 9,909 spectators .

The 2007/08 season was played for the first time in the club's history in Serie B and was relegated to 13th place. 2008/09 they finished sixth and failed in the promotion play-offs. In 2012/13 he was relegated to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione .

history

The club was founded in 1912 as the Football Club Grosseto . Nine years later you joined the Italian Football Association . In 1927 the club changed its club colors from black and white to today's red and white. Since its inception, the US Grosseto played predominantly in the Serie C and in the amateur leagues.

In 1995 the club was excluded from the game due to financial difficulties and, after having been promoted from Serie D the year before , was not allowed to compete in Serie C2 .

In 2000, the US Grosseto was taken over by Piero Camilli , who wanted to bring the club back into professional football. For the 2002/03 season, the club finally rose to Serie C2, which they won in 2004. In the 2004/05 season they qualified in Serie C1 for the relegation games for promotion, but lost in the semifinals against Pavia . A year later Grosseto failed only in the playoff final to Frosinone Calcio .

In the 2006-07 season US Grosseto rose under coach Antonello Cuccureddu that Massimiliano Allegri had after the ninth matchday replaced by the first place in Serie C1 in the Serie B on. Just a few days after the promotion, the club separated by mutual agreement from Cuccureddu, in his place Giorgio Roselli was signed as coach.

Grosseto started the 2007/08 season disappointingly with three defeats and replaced Roselli on September 11, 2007 with the former FC Parma coach Stefano Pioli . At the end of the season they finished 13th in the table. In 2008/09 the team finished sixth in Serie B and had to admit defeat 0: 2 and 1: 4 in the semi-finals of the promotion play-offs to Serie A of AS Livorno .

In 2015 the club had to be re-established and was renamed Football Club Grosseto Società Sportiva Dilettantistica , or FC Grosseto for short . In addition, you had to compete in Serie D , although you had kept your athleticism in the Lega Pro .

After the club was relegated to the fifth-class Eccellenza in 2017, the club was re-established as US Grosseto in July 2017 .
