Marco Branca (born January 6, 1965 in Grosseto ) is a former Italian football player and sports official.
Career as a player
Club career
Marco Branca began his playing career at US Grosseto in the fourth Italian division , but did not appear in the league there. He then moved to Cagliari Calcio , a club that was playing in Serie A at the time. He stayed there for four seasons but was only used in Serie B in his third year . Branca spent the next few years at various Italian clubs, which mainly played in the top Italian league.
Towards the end of his career Branca moved to England for Middlesbrough FC , where he was used in both the First Division and the Premier League . After he had also played for FC Luzern in the Swiss National League , he let his career at AC Monza end in Serie B.
The most successful season for Branca was the 1995/96 season , when he was able to achieve a total of 19 league goals for AS Roma and Inter Milan . In the season 1994/95 he was also together with Fabrizio Ravanelli top scorer of the Italian Cup (six goals).
National team
Branca took part with the Italian selection at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . There he scored all four of his team's goals, but couldn't prevent the Italian selection from failing in the group stage.

Career as a functionary
After his career as a football player, Branca became an official at Inter Milan in 2002 , where he was responsible for player transfers as technical director since 2003 . Under Branca, Inter signed players like Dejan Stanković , Esteban Cambiasso , Júlio César , Samuel , Maicon , Zlatan Ibrahimović , Wesley Sneijder , Diego Milito and Samuel Eto'o . But also flops worth millions like Mancini or Ricardo Quaresma were hired under Branca.
On February 8, 2014, the employment relationship between Branca and Inter Milan was officially terminated. Club president Erick Thohir , who had taken over the club a few months earlier, drew conclusions from the disappointing results of the Milanese in the 2013/14 season .
