U 18 ( ship identification S 197) was a submarine of the submarine class 206 of the German Navy . It was put into service on December 19, 1973 for the 3rd submarine squadron and converted into the modernized class 206A between April 1990 and March 1992. The sponsor city was Külsheim . U 18 was decommissionedon March 31, 2011; it has served as a spare parts store for the Colombian Navy in Kiel since 2012.
