Ulrich Hartmann (politician)

Ulrich Hartmann (born April 8, 1938 in Bremen ; † May 23, 2011 in Hamburg ) was a German SPD politician and managing director of the Hamburg gas works . He was a member of the Hamburg parliament .

Hartmann was born in Bremen in 1938 as the son of a doctor. After graduating from high school, he studied economics and political science at the University of Hamburg and worked as a tram conductor, at the post office and in construction. After completing his studies with a degree in economics in 1962, he worked as a research assistant in the Hamburg parliamentary group of the SPD from 1963, and as the party’s chief executive from 1968.

From 1966 to 1970 he was a member of the Eimsbüttel district assembly . In 1970 he was elected to the citizenry and was a member until 1986. From 1973 to 1982 he was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there.

Professionally, Hartmann was in the management of Hein Gas / Hamburger Gaswerke from 1971 to 2002, and from 1996 chairman of the management. From 1998 to 2001 Ulrich Hartmann also chaired the German Gas and Water Industry Association (DVGW, industry association for the German gas and water industry) and was a member of the Broadcasting Council of the North German Broadcasting Corporation. In 2002 he retired.
