Ulrich Karl von Froreich (born October 18, 1739 in Kaltenhagen , Köslin district , † March 13, 1801 in Minden ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the body cuirassier regiment .

Life

origin

The Froreich family is an old soldier family from Pomerania . His parents were the Prussian captain in Infantry Regiment No. 25 Lorenz Wedig von Froreich (* July 13, 1703 - November 18, 1777) and his wife Katharina Luise, born von Versen (* March 6, 1712 - March 9, 1778) from the house of Crampe.

Military career

On November 2, 1752 Froreich was a cadet in Berlin and on 13 May 1757 in the Dragoon Regiment. 4 of the Prussian Army hired. In the Seven Years' War that followed , he fought in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Liegnitz , Torgau and in the battle near Wahlstatt. He was wounded at Kolin and Zorndorf. During that time he became ensign on September 4, 1758 and second lieutenant on July 24, 1760 .

After the war, it was not until June 2, 1771 that he was promoted to prime lieutenant . On November 26th, 1775 he was then Chief of Staff and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On January 19, 1781 he was promoted to major and on June 26, 1783 appointed squadron chief. His promotion to lieutenant colonel took place on 12 August 1790 which the Colonel he was appointed on June 11, 1791. On December 30, 1792 Commander in the Cuirassier "of Saxe-Weimar" was added.

In the First Coalition War , Froreich was at the siege of Mainz , in the Battle of Landau and in the battle near Witzburg. For his behavior in Mainz he received the order Pour le Mérite on July 23, 1793 , on May 27, 1798 he rose to major general . On July 15, 1799 he was appointed chief of the body cuirassier regiment . He joined the Observation Army on the Weser and died of a stroke on March 13, 1801 in Minden in Westphalia .

family

In September 1777 he married Margarethe Helene von der Marwitz (* May 22, 1745, † January 8, 1805) from the House of Groß-Rietz in Landsberg an der Warthe . The couple had a son:
