USA Hockey is the American ice hockey association, which was called AHAUS (Amateur Hockey Association of the United States) until June 1991 . The US national ice hockey team and the USA Hockey National Team Development Program report to him . USA Hockey is the only member association of the IIHF besides Hockey Canada to have its own rule book. For example, both associations usually play on smaller ice surfaces than in Europe.

After joining the IIHF in 1920, the association resigned in 1928, but only rejoined two years later. USA Hockey has been a permanent member of the IIHF since 1930 . In the 2008-09 season, over 548,000 ice hockey players, coaches and officials were registered in the United States. The association is based in Colorado Springs , Colorado . This is divided into twelve regions (Atlantic, Central, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mid-American, Minnesota , New England, New York, Northern Plains, Pacific, Rocky Mountain, Southeastern). In some program points, the Alaska region is also separated.
