history

The Lahden Pallo-Miehet failed several times in the early 1960s just about promotion to the Finnish first division. Due to financial difficulties of the club, the club was taken over by the UPO company in autumn 1963. The club then took the name Upon Pallo . In 1964, in the first season after the renaming, Upon Pallo won the eastern season of the II divisioona with only one defeat, whereby the club rose to the first-class Mestaruussarja . After relegation in 1965 and renewed promotion in 1966, the club played consistently first class from 1967 to 1974. In 1969 the name was changed to Lahden Kuusysi . In 1981 Kuusysi made it back to the Mestaruussarja after seven years in the second division. The team also reached the final of the Finnish Football Cup, but lost 4-0 to Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi . In the first first division season after promotion, Kuusysi finished sixth after the regular round of play. In the subsequent championship round, Kuusysi managed to jump to first place in the table. Thus, Kuusysi became Finnish champion for the first time as a climber.

In the following 1983 season, the club won the Finnish Cup with a 2-0 win against Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi, a year later this encounter came again in the final, this time Helsinki won 2-1. For this Kuusysi won the Finnish championship for the second time in 1984. In the 1985/86 European Cup , for which Kuusysi qualified, the Yugoslav champions FK Sarajevo were defeated 2-1 twice in the first round. After a 1: 2 and a 3: 1 after extra time against Zenit Leningrad , Kuusysi reached the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated against the eventual winner Steaua Bucharest after a 0-0 and a 0-1 defeat in the second leg in Helsinki . In 1986 the club from Lahti won again the championship, in 1987 the cup with a 5-4 win over Oulun Työvänen Palloilijat . In 1989 and 1991 championships four and five followed. After a 13th place in the Veikkausliiga 1995 , FC Kuusysi was relegated to the Ykkönen . There the team played in 1996 with Lahden Reipas, among others . With this club, Kuusysi merged after the season to FC Lahti , which took Kuusysis place in the Ykkönen in 1997. Kuusysi only formed its own team again from 2011, which took the place of the City Stars from Lahti in the Kakkonen. In 2013 the name was changed to FC Lahti Akatemia. The team serves as the youth team of FC Lahti.
