Uwe Nolte
Uwe Nolte (born May 11, 1969 in Merseburg ) is a German musician , poet , graphic artist and publisher .
Life
Uwe Nolte is a trained zoo keeper. In 1987 he was district champion in the military all-around competition. He completed his three years of military service as a tracking dog handler with the border troops of the GDR . In his youth, Nolte was part of the punk and metal scene in Halle. His idols were Friedrich Hölderlin , Jakob Böhme and Friedrich Nietzsche . He was married to the Russian artist Kristina Zieber .
Uwe Nolte maintains friendship and acquaintance with the poet and publisher Uwe Lammla , the musician Michael Moynihan , the writer Baal Müller , the singer Ian Read from the English folk band Fire + Ice and with Andreas Ritter from the German folk band Forseti . A close friend and mentor of Noltes is Rolf Schilling , poet and philosopher from Nordhausen . Schilling wrote the prologue to Nolte's first volume of poetry: “The word 'bard', nowadays often used carelessly or disparagingly, originally describes the poet as a singer. For Uwe Nolte it would be appropriate and an honorary title. He has the tone that moves and goes to the heart, and also what we artists love: line, attitude, style. "

music
Uwe Nolte is mainly known for his music project Orplid , which is located between neofolk and neoclassical music and which he dedicated to the "preservation and revitalization of German poetry". The theme of the songs reaches from Germanic paganism, Greek mythology into the Christian symbolism of the early Middle Ages and natural romanticism. In addition to verses written by Uwe Nolte himself, the texts of other German poets such as Friedrich Schiller , Annette von Droste-Hülshoff , Joseph von Eichendorff , Gottfried Benn , Oda Schaefer , Frank Wedekind and the contemporary poet Rolf Schilling are set to music.
Other bands were and are backbone , Sonnentau and his live band Barditus , with whom he mainly appears in Eastern Europe. Nolte's musical spectrum ranges from black metal and industrial to natural folk . In Halle he also appeared as an interpreter of songs by Bertolt Brecht .
graphic
His graphic work, which he presented at some exhibitions, is from the painting of European symbolism, u. a. coined by Franz von Stuck , Jean Delville and Gustave Moreau . Nolte's graphics were also used to design the covers of various books and music publications, including by the bands Fire + Ice , Forseti and Leger des Heils .
Poetry
Nolte's poetry is strictly formal and based on traditional models of German Romanticism, especially Joseph von Eichendorff and Lenau . In 2012 his first volume of poetry was published, Du warst Orplid, mein Land! with your own illustrations. In 2014 the Arnshaugk publishing house published the book of poems Wilder Kaiser and in 2015 an expanded and graphically renewed reprint of Du warst Orplid, mein Land! . In 2016 the same publisher published the volume of poetry Falke Heime and in 2017 Schirjajewo .
controversy
Nolte was placed in the context of right-wing extremism or the New Right in various places, especially due to earlier activities with the music projects Backbone and Orplid . General statements that Nolte is a staunch right-wing extremist are usually rejected by his critics. Rather, Nolte was criticized for addressing a right-wing extremist audience due to economic and creative collaborations and a reactionary room for interpretation. The allegations that are held against Nolte's Orplid project include “a glorified anti-modernism ” and “the sale of his band's CDs years ago by right-wing companies, concerts with groups that are criticized for their proximity to right-wing circles, and participation in one CD in honor of Leni Riefenstahl ”. Nolte, on the other hand, fended off the criticism by stating that "he is not interested in politics and it is also indifferent to which audience is enthusiastic about his art". The criticisms accused of him, however, are "always the same old stuff". In mid-February 2019, Nolte presented “untimely and rebellious art” at “Flamberg”, the “patriotic center” of the right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement in Halle (Saale) .
