Vága kommuna

Vága kommuna (translated: Municipality of Vágar ) is a Faroese municipality on the island of Vágoy . The municipality includes the towns of Miðvágur , Vatnsoyrar , Sandavágur and the abandoned village of Slættanes . At the beginning of 2016, exactly 1990 people lived in the municipality of Vágar.

The community

On January 1, 2009, the Faroese municipality Vágar ( Vága kommuna ) was formed by amalgamating the previously existing municipalities Miðvágur ( Miðvágs kommuna ) and Sandavágur ( Sandavágs kommuna ). The municipality has given itself the name Vágar ("bays") after the two largest places Miðvágur and Sandavágur. The island of Vágoy is also often called Vágar. The municipality of Vágar occupies the eastern half of the island of Vágoy / Vágar. The neighboring municipality of Sørvágur ( Sørvágs kommuna ) is in the western half .

Mayoress ( borgarstjóri ) of Vágar is Rósa Samuelsen from Sambandsflokkurin . The seat of the municipal administration ( býráðsskrivstovan ) is in Sandavágur.

Attractions

The two largest lakes in the Faroe Islands, Leitisvatn and Fjallavatn , are located on the border with the neighboring municipality of Sørvágur. Therefore, the eastern half of the lakes belong to the area of the municipality of Vágar. The Trøllkonufingur located off the southern coast of the island also in the municipality.
