V2 was the type designation of a Romanian tram - joint car . The 1981–1982 at Electrometal Timișoara ( Eltim ) built six-axle prototype ran in regular passenger service on the Timișoara tram . There he was listed under the company number 230 in the inventory of the IJTL Timiș , which was renamed the Regia Autonomă de Transport Timișoara ( RATT ) in 1991 . The vehicle discussed here was also the first articulated tram on the Timișoara tram. The full name of the loner was Tramvai articulat V2-1982 , this was initially also written on the outside and was composed as follows:

Tramvai articulat Romanian for articulated tram
V2 Short for Vagon2, which means a car consisting of two parts

history

Structurally the V2 based on the already produced from 1970 conventional Timis-2 - Greater trains . In fact, it was a Timiș 2 railcar without a rear, which was combined with a Timiș 2 sidecar without a front and without a first bogie . One consequence of this was that the V2 had a double door in front of and behind the hinge, which was actually designed for the operation of four-axle vehicles with passenger flow and central entry. In the V2, the first and last bogies were driven, while the central Jakobs bogie under the joint ran without a drive. The motor output of the articulated car was exactly the same as that of a Timiș 2 railcar at 192 and 240 kilowatts, respectively . The roof superstructures were also the same length as on a conventional Timiș 2 four-axle vehicle, so in the V2 they had to be distributed over both halves of the car.

The test vehicle was used by the manufacturer to gain basic experience with articulated vehicles. Previously, in Romania, multi-part trams only existed on the Bucharest tram. In the main workshop there, however, these had been produced in series since 1972 in the form of the three-part and six-axle type V3A .

The 230 car started trial operation at the end of 1982 and was initially used on line 4. Later it was also used on other routes - always driving solo - for example on ring lines 6 and 7. A use with a sidecar would be because of the mostly not possible on two four-axle designed platform lengths. Due to numerous technical problems, however, the articulated car was only rarely found in regular service. In 1985, for example, it was not used for a long time.

After the number of passengers fell sharply as a result of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 and the subsequent economic decline, the RATT took its loner - as one of the first railcars after the upheaval - out of service. In the course of 1991 it still received the then newly introduced company number on the front, which replaced the numbers on the side - in August 1992, however, it was already parked permanently in the open-air area of the Dâmbovița depot - without joint panels and without exterior mirrors. In 1994 it was still part of the RATT portfolio, but was still shut down at the time. In 1998 it was finally scrapped - already in a desolate state with broken window panes.

In addition, there were also plans to build a three-part eight-axle articulated wagon based on the V2, the intended type designation was V3. A true-to-scale model already existed for this. However, this project was not realized, instead ELTIM presented another six-axle vehicle with the type designation V2C in 1985 . However, this differed significantly from the V2 or its basic type Timiș 2.
