The locomotive 1 of the Timișoara tram - Romanian Locomotiva 1 , abbreviated L1 - is a former service vehicle of the aforementioned tram company . The two-axle electric locomotive with a central driver's cab was ordered from the János Weitzer wagon factory in Arad in 1914 , manufactured in the course of 1915 and finally delivered to the tram company known as Temesvári Villamos Városi Vasút (TVVV) in 1916 ; the electrical equipment was supplied by AEG . The machine was thus available in time for the start of the tram freight traffic in the Fabrik district . This was started on August 8, 1916 with the connection of the local Timișoreana brewery.

Because over the years more and more companies were connected to the freight transport of the tram, in 1928 and 1956 the tram company procured two more machines in addition to the L1 with the locomotive 2 and the locomotive 3 . Initially, the locomotive dealt with here ran without a company number; it was not until 1928 that it was given the designation L1 to distinguish it from the second engine that was delivered later.

In addition, the locomotive's original pantograph was replaced by a lyre pantograph as early as the mid-1920s - parallel to the railcars used in passenger transport . This in turn gave way to a pantograph in the course of the modernization program from 1956 to 1960 . A new - slightly higher - barrel roof also had to be constructed for this. Side walkways were also installed on this for better maintenance of the pantograph.

With the abandonment of the tram freight transport via Gara de Est in 1975, locomotive 1 lost its original purpose. From then on, it served in the local tram factory as a shunting locomotive for moving brand-new Timiș 2 wagons , for this purpose their railway buffers were removed . In 1990 it was finally retired - with the end of tram production in Timișoara. In 1992 the disused locomotive was still in the Dâmbovița depot, later it was scrapped.
