Type R.4 (Timișoara tram)

The type R.4 was a sidecar series of the Timișoara tram in Romania .

In 1960, the transport company in Timişoara, then known as Întreprinderea Comunală Oraş Timişoara (ICOT), received ten used two-axle standard - gauge trailers from Întreprinderea de Transport Bucureşti (ITB), the operator of the tram in the capital Bucharest . They were previously used there as type V08. The purchase is mentioned in the April 9, 1960 edition of the Timișoara newspaper Drapelul roșu . The 6700 mm long and 2040 mm wide mover carriage with wooden body and 1.5 mm thick sheet metal cladding were the first second-hand vehicles tram Timişoara. The cars built in 1911 had to be refurbished due to their badly worn condition, with one of them only serving as a spare parts donor from the start. On September 21, 1960 only two of them were completely renovated, the remaining seven were still being refurbished. The ICOT initially lined up the R.4 cars under the numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12 and 14 in their inventory, before they assigned the number block 11-19 in the course of the systematic re-drawing campaign of 1964 got.

The Bucharest sidecars were used behind railcars of the types V54 , Pionier , V58 and T1-62 . Sometimes three-car trains were also formed with them. In Timișoara they were only in use for a few years, the first three cars (11, 18 and 19) were withdrawn as early as 1967, and the remaining six (12 to 17) followed in 1968. Not a single R.4 was preserved.

In addition to Timișoara, the Brăila tram also received 14 such used cars from Bucharest, where they were given the new numbers 24-37. Another 17 went to the Arad tram between 1961 and 1964 , where they were converted to meter gauge and classified under the numbers 27–41, 44 and 45.
