The VG EcoCoaster (also EcoCoaster 4800 ) is a type of coaster . The drive motor can be operated with marine diesel oil or biodiesel .

history

The ship's design was developed by the Finnish companies Meriaura Group, Foreship and Aker Arctic Technology. The ships were built by Royal Bodewes . The construction contract for two units was signed in January 2015. The hulls were built by a Polish shipyard in Stettin and towed to the Bodewes shipyard in Papenburg for equipment .

The ships are used by the Meriaura Group. Bereedert they are from the members of the Group companies Meriaura VG-Shipping.

description

The drive of the vessels is carried out by a four-stroke - eight-cylinder - Diesel engine manufacturer's Anglo Belgian Corporation (type: 8DZC) with 1,650  kW power . The motor acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ships reach around 11.5  kn . The engine is designed to run on marine diesel oil or biodiesel and can also burn a mixture of the two. The biodiesel for operating the ships is primarily made from cooking oil residues. For driving on ice, the drive is reinforced by an electric power take-off. This increases the drive power to 2,484 kW. The electric drive can also be used as an emergency drive if the main engine fails. The ships are equipped with a catalytic converter for exhaust aftertreatment .

A wave generator with 736 kW output ( apparent power : 920  kVA ) and two diesel generators with 680 kW each (apparent power: 760 kVA) are available for power generation. A diesel generator with an output of 127 kW (apparent power: 159 kVA) was installed for emergency and port operations.

The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It can accommodate ten crew members . The hold is in front of the deckhouse . It is 64.80 meters long and 11.20 meters wide and 8.65 meters high. The capacity is 6,034 m³. The hold is closed with ten pontoon hatch covers, which are moved with the help of a hatch truck. The room can be divided with two bulkheads , which can also be used as an intermediate deck. The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m², the hatch cover with 2 t / m². The ships are prepared for the transport of containers . 68 TEU can be loaded on deck  .

The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 500 kW power. The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).
