Valério Breda

Valério Breda SDB (born January 24, 1945 in San Fior , Treviso Province , Italy ; † June 16, 2020 in Maceió , Alagoas , Brazil ) was an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Penedo in Brazil.

Life

Valério Breda came in 1962 in the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and received on 29 June 1973, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He initially worked at the Istituto Salesiano Manfredini , a classical lyceum in Padua maintained by his order, and headed the youth center in Padua. In 1983 he went to Brazil and worked in the Matriz de Camaragibe (PE) parish until 1993. From 1993 to 1997 he was Provincial of the Order of Northeastern Brazil, based in Recife.

On 30 July 1997 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishops of Penedo . The Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia , Lucas Cardinal Moreira Neves OP , donated him episcopal ordination on October 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Maceió , Edvaldo Gonçalves Amaral SDB, and the Archbishop of Olinda e Recife , José Cardoso Sobrinho OCarm . His episcopal motto was Caritas Christi Urget . He was President of the Biblical-Catechetical Pastoral Commission of the Northeast Region 2 of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference CNBB.

Valério Breda has been hospitalized after a stroke since April 2020 and died at the age of 75 from severe kidney failure caused by an intense allergic reaction.
