Valerio Lazzeri (born July 22, 1963 in Dongio ) is a Swiss clergyman and has been a Roman Catholic Bishop of Lugano since 2013 .

Life

Valerio Lazzeri studied at the seminary in Lugano and Freiburg (1982–1987), at the Pontificio Seminario Lombardo (1987–1989) and at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1987–1988). On September 2, 1989, he received the sacrament of ordination .

In 1991 he was with a thesis on spirituality at the Pontifical Faculty Teresianum to Dr. theol. PhD . He was vice-rector of the Collegio Papio in Ascona (1991-1993) and worked for the Congregation for Catholic Education in Rome.

Valerio Lazzeri has been a lecturer at the Theological Faculty of Lugano since 1999 and was episcopal vicar and spiritual in the seminary in the diocese of Lugano .

On November 4, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Lugano by Pope Francis . The Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, Archbishop Diego Causero , donated his episcopal ordination on December 7th of the same year; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Pier Giacomo Grampa and the bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Friborg , Charles Morerod OP .
