The Velička ( German Weleczka ) is a left tributary of the March in the Czech Republic .
geography
The Velička rises on the northwest slope of the Velká Javořina ( 970 m ) in the White Carpathians below the Javořina nature reserve . It first flows through a wooded valley past the Hubertova bouda to the northwest. Via Uherskohradišťské Vápenky , Fojtické Mlýny, Podširocké Mlýny, Čerešnické Mlýny, Hryzlácké Mlýny, Zámečnické Mlýny and Suchovské Mlýny the further course leads in western directions. The Velička valley near the Pod Kozimelkou settlement is protected as a Jazevčí nature reserve. Petruchův Mlýn, Kománkův Mlýn, Javorník , Velká nad Veličkou , Žilkův Mlýn, Horákův Mlýn, Louka and Lipov follow . The Nové Mesto nad Váhom – Veselí nad Moravou railway runs along the Velička between Javorník and Lipov . Around Louka and Lipov are the nature reserves Hloží, Háj u Louky and Háj u Lipovy.
At Tasov the river leaves the last foothills of the White Carpathian Mountains and enters the Moravian Plain. The lower course of the Velička leads past Hroznová Lhota , Kněždub , Žeraviny and Strážnice . The Baťův kanál leads north of Strážnice over the Velička. After 40.24 km, the river flows into the March three kilometers west of Strážnice. Its catchment area is 184.73 km².
In the estuary on the March are the nature reserves Osypané břehy, Oskovec and Oskovec II.
Originally the Velička flowed into the Morávka at Strážnice Castle. After the expansion of this arm of the March to Baťův kanál between 1935 and 1938, the Velička received a direct discharge into the March. The canal bridges the river, at the bridge two overflows lead to Velička.
