history
The name of the place was first mentioned in a document between 1444 and 1460. It was owned by the Vác diocese and was an oppidum as early as the 14th century .
During the Turkish occupation, the population was decimated, similar to the neighboring towns of Nagymaros and Visegrád .
After a battle between Turks and Hungarians, Verőce was again owned by the Vác diocese in 1598. After the Turkish occupation, the village was rebuilt by Hungarians from the Felvidék , Slovaks and Germans.
With the administrative reform of 1950, the Szob County in Nógrád County, and thus Verőce as well, was incorporated into Pest County . In 1965 the name of the settlement was changed from Nógrádverőc to Verőce . On December 31, 1974, the name Verőcemaros was incorporated into Kismaros . On January 1, 1990, Kismaros became independent again.
