history

The community association comprised largely communities that had so far a historical connection, as they for Rear County of Sponheim included, except only castle and the left of the chewing Bach preferred part of the district Kautenbach (these were among Kurtrier ). Until the end of the old county, Trarbach was the main town and seat of the upper office. After the area was incorporated into Prussia in 1815 , the places in the area of the Verbandsgemeinde were assigned to different mayorships : Traben, Trarbach, Enkirch , Burg and Starkenburg ( district of Zell ) belonged to the mayor's office of Trarbach , Wolf belonged to the mayor's office of Kröv ( district of Bernkastel ), Irmenach , Beuren and Lötzbeuren to the mayor's office in Sohren (Zell district), Kautenbach to the communities of Fronhofen and Graach (Bernkastel district). In 1884 the mayor's office in Trarbach was dissolved. The mayor's office Enkirch was formed from the towns of Enkirch, Burg and Starkenburg , Traben formed its own mayor's office, administered jointly with the city of Trarbach through a personal union, until it was merged into the city of Traben-Trarbach in 1904.

In the course of the functional and territorial reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , a large part of the offices that had emerged from the mayor's offices in 1927 were dissolved or merged and the new municipalities were formed. After the new district of Bernkastel-Wittlich was formed from the districts of Bernkastel and Wittlich in 1969, the two communities of Kautenbach and Wolf were dissolved on June 7, 1969 and incorporated into the city of Traben-Trarbach. From the city of Traben-Trarbach, the communities Burg, Enkirch and Starkenburg and the communities Irmenach, Beuren and Lötzbeuren became the "Eighth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of July 28, 1970 with effect from November 7, 1970 new community of Traben-Trarbach formed. In particular, the last three municipalities mentioned had vehemently spoken out in favor of Traben-Trarbach, after it had already been planned to assign them with the entire municipality of Büchenbeuren to the municipality of Kirchberg. The municipal councils of Irmenach and Beuren had u. a. Threatened in a council meeting: “If the wishes of the municipalities are not met, the council members will give up their mandate and the mayors and the aldermen will give up their office. According to our findings, none of the list's successors will then be willing to accept a mandate in the local council ”.

As association communities were supposed to have no fewer than 12,000 inhabitants as part of the second Rhineland-Palatinate municipal and administrative reform of September 28, 2010, but the association communities Traben-Trarbach and Kröv-Bausendorf had not agreed a voluntary change of area, a merger was ordered by state law.
