history

The previous community of Westhofen was created in 1972 as part of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform . Before that, the administrative structures from the Hessian period (1816 to 1946) essentially applied in the then administrative district of Rheinhessen . The city of Osthofen has not previously belonged to any association municipality.

On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was stipulated that these should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009), for municipalities not belonging to the association, the number of inhabitants was set at 10,000. The so-called voluntary phase ended on June 30, 2012.

Originally, the councils of the non-association town of Osthofen and the municipality of Eich decided to merge the two regional authorities in May 2011, but a public petition prevented this merger and proposed a merger with the municipality of Westhofen.

In the "State Law on the Voluntary Formation of the New Association of Wonnegau" of December 19, 2012, it was stipulated that the administrative business of the association-free city of Osthofen in their name and in theirs from January 1, 2013 to June 3, 2014 Order took over. The association has its seat in Osthofen since July 1, 2014 , a second administrative office was set up in Westhofen . On the occasion of their voluntary formation, the state granted the new community a one-time, resident-related allocation in the amount of 787,920 euros.
