The VfL Schildesche (full name: Verein für Leibesübungen Schildesche from 1897 eV ) is a sports club from the Bielefeld district of Schildesche . The first football team today plays in the district league B. In the 1949/50 season, the club played one year in the highest Westphalian amateur league.
history
Structural development
The club was founded in 1897 as a workers gymnastics club Deutsche Eiche Schildesche . In 1912 a football department was established. After the First World War , the name of the club was changed to Free Turnerschaft Schildesche . The footballers, who were also known as Vorwärts Schildesche , took part in the games of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association , where they became champions of the Bielefeld district in 1922, 1925 and 1926. When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the Free Gymnastics Association was banned and dissolved. After the end of the Second World War , today's VfL Schildesche was founded as a successor club. The gymnastics community Schildesche , which was founded in 1905 as a spin-off from the Free Gymnastics Association Schildesche , which split off from VfL in 1950 , also flowed into this association . It is not known whether the VfL Schildesche also included the SpVgg Schildesche , whose footballers played in the second-rate district class from 1935. In addition to football, VfL Schildesche also offers a running club .
Athletic career
The VfL played from 1945 initially with moderate success in the Bielefeld district class and in 1949 became champions one point ahead of TBV Lemgo and SV Brackwede . As second in the promotion round behind SV Sodingen , the Schildescher reached the state league , which was the highest amateur league in Westphalia at the time. Despite a twelfth place , the team had to relegate, as the national league was converted from a two-track to a single-track division. VfL and SuS Recklinghausen had the worse goal quotient compared to Teutonia Lippstadt . In addition, the Schildescher failed due to their weakness at home, as they had to accept nine of their 13 defeats this season on their own place, including an 8-0 against SC Hassel .
Two years later the Schildescher were penultimate in the 2. Landesliga Ost and had to relegate to the district class. In 1953 VfL almost passed into the district class, but was able to prevent this with a 6-2 win in the decider against SV Avenwedde . Only in 1957 succeeded after two third places, the return to the now fourth class national league. Sporting highlights were fourth places in 1963 and 1968 as well as the narrow 3-2 defeat after extra time in the West German Cup in 1958 against Preußen Münster . In 1964, after a 1-0 defeat in the play-off against TuS Brake in neutral Oerlinghausen, they went back to the district class. The direct resurgence was missed. The playoff against the equal points DJK Gütersloh was lost in the neutral Brackwede with 2: 5.
Three years later they returned to the national league, where VfL immediately finished fourth. In 1972 the Schildescher got down again, this time after a playoff round against TuRa Löhne and SuS Herford . After several years in the district league - between 1974 and 1977 VfL came third four times in a row - the team was relegated to the district league A in 1981. Between 1989 and 1994 and from 1998 to 2002 VfL played again in the regional league and in 2000 missed promotion to the national league as runner-up behind TSG Harsewinkel . Since 2002, the club has been playing in the district league A. In 2014, VfL missed the district league promotion as runner-up behind SC Bielefeld 04/26 . Two years later, the team had to relegate to the district league B due to the worse goal difference compared to SV Gadderbaum and became runner-up there in 2017 behind SC Babenhausen .
Stadion
In 1926, the footballers moved into their sports field at Johannisbach , an ash field with little natural grass on the touchlines. At the beginning of the 2000s the place had to be given up. The new sports field at the viaduct is located in the immediate vicinity of the Schildescher Viaduct and has a play area made of artificial turf .
