José Vicente García Acosta

José Vicente García Acosta (born August 4, 1972 in Tafalla ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

Career

García Acosta began his professional career in 1995 with the Spanish cycling team Banesto and stayed with this team, which changed names several times and was called Movistar Team in 2013, until the end of his active cycling career . He celebrated his first major professional victory at the Vuelta a España in 1997 with a stage win. In 1998, he was with Abraham Olano the Grand Prix Eddy Merckx win a pair of time trials .

García achieved his greatest success in the 2000 Tour de France by winning the twelfth stage. In a total of twelve participations he managed a second stage place behind Juan Miguel Mercado in 2004 . In the following years he was able to win a stage of the Burgos Tour and one of the Vuelta a Castilla y León .

At the end of the 2011 season, he ended his career as a professional cyclist and in 2012 became sporting director for the Movistar team, on whose website he is presented with the words “Un gregario de lujo, ahora al volante” (German: “A noble helper, today at the wheel ").
