Coordinates: 64 ° 37 ' N , 16 ° 39' O Vilhelmina is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province Västerbottens Lan and the historical province Lapland . The main town of the municipality is Vilhelmina . The Reichsstrasse 45, 90 and the Regionalstrasse 360lead through the community.
geography
The community extends about 160 kilometers along the Ångermanälven from the Norwegian border to the southeast and is about half the size of Thuringia . A quarter of the community area is taken up by the high mountains, in which Marsfjällen is the highest mountain with a height of 1589 meters. Numerous long, narrow mountain lakes form the headwaters of the Ångermanälven. The densely forested foreland is also criss-crossed by numerous lakes and extensive wetlands.
economy
Forestry and reindeer herding in the north-west of the municipality are the traditional industries. Tourism has grown in importance in the last few decades. Saxnäs is an important tourist center.
The Vilhelmina airport is located 5 km south-east of the town.
