Vincent Baier

Vinzenz Baier (born April 11, 1881 in Schatzlar , Bohemia , † 1955 ) was an Austro-German architect and university professor and rector at the German Technical University in Brno .

Life

Baier attended grammar school in Trautenau from 1892 to 1899 and studied at the k. k. Technical University of Vienna ; he was a student of Karl König .

He was a professor at the Innsbruck State Trade School and was its technical director from 1906 to 1909. In 1915 he switched to the German Technical University in Brno and was professor of architecture from 1921 until his escape in 1944 ; In 1930 he became dean and in 1923 rector . From 1936 to 1938 he was also the curator of the State Monument Office in Brno for the Mikulov region .

Together with his colleagues Heinrich Fanta , Emil Tranquillini and Emil Leo, he was one of the younger generation of architects at the German Technical University in Brno. He had his studio first in Innsbruck , later in Trautenau and, like Leopold Bauer , Emil Hoppe , Otto Schönthal , Josef Hofbauer , Oskar Strnad and Eduard Hütter, was assigned to the "Viennese Hoffmann tradition".

He was a member of the Association of German Architects, Vice-President of the German Werkbund in the Czechoslovak Republic and President of the German-Moravian Arts and Crafts Association.

On September 2, 1911, he married Emmy b. Seltz; from the marriage came the daughter Emmy (born May 7, 1913).

Projects and Buildings

In the Parschnitz district (today: Poříčí) of Trautenau stands the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, which was built from 1897 to 1903 according to the plans of Vincenz Baier.

In Innsbruck he worked out the project for the extension of the parish church in Rossitz .

In 1915 he received for his with Franz Lukesch (1875-1931) wrote submitting to the kk Ministry of Culture and Education ausgelobten competition war memorials an honorific recognition .

He designed the pavilion of the Werkbund der Deutschen in the Czechoslovak Republic in 1926 for an exhibition in Brno. Together with the architects Zoltán Egri and Othmar Fraas , he designed the German pavilion of the German Society for Science and Art for the Czech anniversary in 1928.
