Virgil (Vergil) Trofin (born July 23, 1926 in Lipovăț , Vaslui County ; † 1984 in Călărași , Călărași County ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) and from 1965 PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , the Among other things, he was secretary of the central committee of the PCR from 1965 to 1972 and from 1969 to 1974 a member of the permanent presidium of the Central Committee of the PCR. Life

Metal worker, youth functionary and member of parliament

After attending primary and middle school in 1939, Trofin began training as a machine fitter and then worked as a worker in various machine factories in Iași until 1944 . He was then an activist in the Union of Communist Youth UTC (Uniunea Tineretului Comunist) , the party's youth association, and on November 15, 1945, he joined the then Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist din România) as a member. After he was secretary of the regional committee of the UTM in the Iași district from 1945 to 1946 , he was an activist in the central committee of the UTC from 1946 to 1948 and then between 1948 and 1951 head of department in the Central Committee of the UTM Union of Young Working People (Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor ) .

Then Trofin, who temporarily completed courses in the subjects of Marxism-Leninism and economics , moved to the Political Headquarters of the Armed Forces DSPA (Direcția Superioară Politică a Armatei) in 1951 and was there initially deputy head of the organization department, then head of the department for propaganda and agitation and finally Head of Organization and Instruction Department.

From 1953 Trofin was a functionary in the UTM Central Committee, initially as a member of its Central Committee and then from 1954 to May 1956 Secretary of the UTM Central Committee. In 1957 he became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) for the first time , where he represented the constituency of Zeletin until 1965 and became a member of the Constitutional Committee on March 25, 1961. He was then from 1965 to 1969 member of the Grand National Assembly for constituency No. 18 Gherla and between 1969 and 1975 for constituency No. 2 Piteşti-Nord .

He also became a member of the Central Committee of the PMR for the first time at the eighth party congress of the PMR from June 20 to 26, 1960, and belonged to it for more than 21 years until November 26, 1981.

Central Committee Secretary, Minister and Vice-Prime Minister

After finishing his work as first secretary of the UTM, Trofin, who was also a graduate of the party college " Ștefan Gheorghiu ", was initially deputy head of the organization department of the Central Committee on June 23, 1964 and at the same time head of the local group for district instructors. On March 29, 1965 he was finally head of the Central Committee Department for Organization. At the ninth party conference of the PCR from July 19 to 24, 1965, he was also secretary of the PCR Central Committee and held this position until October 1972. As Central Committee secretary, he was responsible for coordinating the activities of the organizational departments of the PCR, the UTC, the National Council of Women (Consiliul Național al Femeilor) , the General Council of the umbrella organization of the trade unions UGSR (Uniunea Generală a Sindicatelor din România) and the General Council of the National Union of Agricultural Production Cooperatives UNCAP (Uniunea Națională a Cooperativelor Agricole de Producție) . He was also from April 7, 1969 to April 29, 1974 member of the Defense Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania (Consiliul Apărării al Republicii Socialiste România) .

In addition, Trofin was elected at the tenth party congress of the PCR from October 6 to 12, 1969 as a member of the Permanent Presidium of the PCR Central Committee and at the same time as a member of the Executive Committee of the Central Committee and was a member of this body until November 28, 1974. In December 1969 he became President of the General Council of UNCAP and held this position until 1971. He then served as President of the General Council of the UGSR between November 17, 1971 and October 11, 1972.

On October 13, 1972, he became Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Internal Trade (Ministru al comerțului interior) in the government of Prime Minister Ion Gheorghe Maurer, and held these offices until March 30, 1974. He was also since December 4, 1972 President of the Council for the Coordination and Direction of the Activities of Offers and Services to the Population and, between July 12, 1973 and March 30, 1974, Vice-President of the Committee on Problems of the People's Councils. Afterwards Trofin became a member of the Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the PCR at the eleventh party congress of the PCR from November 24 to 27, 1974 and was a member of this until his death.

After leaving the government, Trofin became First Secretary of the Party Committee in 1974 and also President of the Executive Council of the People's Council in the Brașov County and held these functions until 1977. In 1975 he was re-elected as a member of the Grand National Assembly and initially represented constituency no. 3 Steagul until 1980 Roşu and then until his expulsion from parliamentary constituency No. 1 Târgu Jiu . During his membership in parliament he was also a member of the Committee on People's Councils and State Administration from March 18, 1975 to July 13, 1978.

He was then from 1982 until his death in 1984 director of the state farm IAS (Întreprinderea Agricolă de Stat) "Mircea Vodă" in the district of Călărași .
