Vitalius Vladas Andriušaitis

Vitalius Vladas Andriušaitis (born June 26, 1927 in Žiūrai-Gudeliai, district Vilkaviškis ; † October 9, 2006 ) was a Lithuanian sports pedagogue, chess coach and referee , honorary citizen of the district of Plungė .

Life

In 1940 Andriušaitis studied at the Žiūrai-Gudeliai primary school, then at the Šunskai secondary school near Marijampolė , in the Progymnasium in Pilviškiai near Vilkaviškis and later at the Marijampolė grammar school (1950). He was interested in chess since childhood. Andriušaitis played a simultaneous chess party with Vladas Mikėnas when he was visiting high school. In 1954 he graduated from the State Pedagogical Institute in Vilnius with a degree in history . Andriušaitis was the institute champion in individual chess for three years. From 1954 he worked at the 1st Plungė Middle School . From 1954 to 1979 he taught history and social sciences at what is now Plungė Secondary School. In 1958 he founded chess lessons in the Plungė pioneer house . In 1964 he and Antanas Jadziauskas established the Plungė sports school and the chess section there. The chess players he supervised included Vitalijus Majorovas (1961–1997), WFM Laima Domarkaitė and FIDE trainer Laimonas Kudžma . Andriušaitis worked as a trainer until 2006. He founded the chess club Plungės visuomeninis šachmatų klubas “Bokštas” and directed it from 1992 to 2006.

Andriušaitis was a candidate for the master of sport in chess. In 1965 and 1966 he became a chess champion in Plungė district . In 1959 and 1960 he was the winner and in 1957 and 1967 he took 3rd place in the chess championship of the Lithuanian "Nemunas" sports club ( Lietuvos savanoriška sporto draugija “Nemunas” ). Andriušaitis was a national category referee. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Lietuvos šachmatų federacija (LŠF) and the Commission for Children and Youth of the LŠF. Andriušaitis was elected to represent the Plungė Sports Community as a delegate to the Restituting Assembly of Lietuvos tautinis olimpinis komitetas .

Andriušaitis was married to Jadvyga Jasaitė. They had two daughters (Violeta and Alma).

Vitalius Andriusaitis Memorial

Vitalius Andriusaitis Memorial has been held annually since 2007 . From July 20 to 26, 2015, around 80 chess players from Lithuania, Latvia , Poland , Russia , Israel and Denmark , including a chess grandmaster , four international masters and two FIDE masters, took part in the international tournament . On October 18, 2015, an international rapid chess tournament with FIDE registration with 25 participants (3 players from Liepāja , Latvia) was organized to commemorate Andriušaitis.
