Viziru is a municipality in Brăila County in Wallachia , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Visiru is located in the Wallachian Plain ( Câmpia Română ) in the historical region of Great Wallachia in Romania. In the Brăilei plain , on the European route 584 (Brăila– Slobozia , Kr. Ialomița ), the place Viziru is located 17 kilometers northeast of the small town of Însură ; ei ; the district capital of Brăila is located 37 kilometers northeast of Viziru. The Danube runs 15 kilometers east of Viziru .
Of the total area of the municipality (10,564 ha), 9,894 hectares are cultivated.
history
Viziru is said to be one of the oldest places in Brăila County. It is said to have been mentioned in a document in 1462 because of the enslavement of 600 families by Turks . The incorporated village of Lanurile was called Golășei until 1965 .
population
In 2002 there were 6,396 inhabitants in the municipality (* according to different information). 5423 (* 4913) of them were Romanians , 972 (* 1483) were Roma and one of them called himself a Magyare . At the 2011 census, the municipality of Viziru registered 5906 inhabitants. Of these, 4515 were Romanians and 1064 Roma, the rest did not provide any information about their ethnicity.
The main occupation of the population is agriculture.

- Two orthodox churches in Viziru, the one built in Cartierul de Sus around 1870 and the second one renovated in 2010.
