Vladimír Mihálik (born January 29, 1987 in Prešov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been playing for HC 05 Banská Bystrica from the Slovakian extra league since September 2016 .

Career

Vladimír Mihálik began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of the HC 07 Prešov , he for the first team in the 2004/05 season, his debut in the Extraliga was. He was then selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as a total of 30th player from the Tampa Bay Lightning .

First, however, the defender played for two years for the Red Deer Rebels and Prince George Cougars in the Canadian top junior division Western Hockey League , and in the 2007/08 season for Tampa's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Norfolk Admirals , before the left-shooter made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Lightning in the 2008-09 season . In his rookie year he made three assists in eleven games. However, most of the season he spent again with the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL. Also in the following two seasons Mihálik went mainly for the Admirals on the ice before he was committed in July 2011 by HC Lev Poprad from the Continental Hockey League .

After the HC Lev Poprad had no chance in January 2012 to reach the KHL playoffs, Mihálik was loaned to the Timrå IK from the Swedish Elitserien until the end of the season. At the end of June of the same year he received a one-year contract with KHL newcomer HC Slovan Bratislava , which was renewed twice in the following years.

He played over 150 KHL games for Slovan before moving to HC 05 Banská Bystrica in September 2016 .

International

For Slovakia , Mihálik took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2005 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2010 World Cup .
