Volker Mehner
Volker Mehner (born August 15, 1953 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German painter and graphic artist .
Life
After training as a bricklayer and several years of professional experience, Volker Mehner worked as a stage worker and stage master at the Chemnitz Theater . Encouraged by well-known Dresden artists such as Curt Querner , Werner Wittig , Max Uhlig and Carlfriedrich Claus , he began to work as an autodidact in painting from 1970 . Since 1989 he has been working as a freelance artist.
In 1990 he spent a year at the Villa Massimo in Rome as part of a guest residency at the Academy of Arts . From 1991 to 1996 several months of study trips and stays in South Africa and Lenzerheide (Switzerland) followed , from 2005 to 2007 several trips to Ireland and Northern Ireland , and again to South Africa in 2008.

When looking at Volker Mehner's overall oeuvre, it is noticeable that it is reflected temporarily and in terms of content in cycles. So from 1979 to 1988 Braunen pictures were created that dealt with mythological themes, from 1983 to 1988 the blue pictures and from 1986 to 1990 the "hedgehog" pictures . From 1997 he repeatedly dealt with the technique of woodcut .
